Physiologix has changed my world! In high school I weighed 120 pounds. After two children I successfully lost all the weight I gained. However, following a tubal ligation I packed on the pounds and couldn't keep it off. I tried a diet plan and lost 30lbs in a three month period but after stopping the diet gained it all right back.
When I completed my internship at Physiologix I went through the same counseling process and training that the patients receive. I learned how to change my eating patterns and exercise using functional fitness principals. I have new found energy when I wake up in the morning. Probably in part because I have 50 pounds less to drag out of bed! I look at pictures from a year ago and can't believe I ever weighed so much. One thing is for sure, I'm not going back there.

October 7, 2008 – I forced myself to get up that morning after another sleepless night. It was my 49th birthday. I couldn’t believe I was that old but that was my reality. I decided to set some goals for the big one that was coming in a year. I set goals - personally and professionally – then set out to fulfill them to the best of my abilities.
I had to do my radio show “Ask the Expert” on WCHS 580 am. I was sitting in the green room with Dr. Dan Stickler who was waiting to go on V100. We had some chit chat and I said that I was tired because I hadn’t slept well. He told me that it was probably my hormones. I agreed because we women use that as an excuse for just about everything. But he said that he was serious and invited me to come to his office the next morning for blood work. He could then tell me for sure if that was the case.
I was so afraid of needles. I passed out when I got my ears pierced in the 7th grade! I worried over it all day wondering why in the world I had agreed to go get blood drawn. But I got up the courage and went as planned.
When I went back for my follow-up appointment, Dr. Stickler informed me that my blood work was very good but that my hormone levels were extremely low. He told me that his philosophy for age management was three fold – diet, exercise and well balanced hormones. That day I went on bio-identical hormone replacement, received a diet plan and joined his gym, Crossfit WV. I asked Dr. Stickler if I could add “to get into the best shape of my life” to my goals for my 50th birthday. He assured me that was a very doable goal.
He told me that I would probably feel better in about 3 weeks. It only took 3 days. For the first time in years, I had slept all night. No hot flashes. No nervousness. It was truly a miracle! If you had asked me if I felt bad, I would have said no. I only felt tired. But looking back now, I really did not feel well at all.
I had noticed that my left eyelid had been drooping for a few years. I had even thought about surgery to fix it because I always looked drunk in my pictures. One day around Christmas, I realized my eyelid was not drooping anymore. I mentioned this to Dr. Stickler. He bluntly said “it was fatigue.” Who would have ever guessed?
I had always worked out. I tried to take care of myself in order to age gracefully. Things were happening to my body that I had no control over and when you are a control freak – that is not a good thing! I had started to gain weight around my waist. I hadn’t had that problem before. I didn’t have as much energy as I used to. I quit teaching aerobics because it was killing me to kill the 20 year olds in my class.
I am very happy to report that is not the case anymore. I have now turned 51. I look younger, feel younger and act younger than ever before. Deciding to do age management with Dr. Stickler has been one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I want to thank Dr. Stickler for giving me back my youthful feeling. The fees were well worth the joy of just sleeping through the night and waking up rested. There is no price that you can put on a high quality of life.

In September of 2008, at 42, I decided that things were not going the way I wanted with my body and lifestyle. I was a busy professional and I was eating pretty healthy and working out 3 days a week like most people who try to stay fit. My workouts were the usual. 30 minutes on the elliptical or treadmill and then 30 minutes to 45 minutes of circuit training. Yet, my closet was full of clothes that used to fit 5 years before and 2 years before and so on. I was putting on 5 to 10 pounds a years for the past 5 years and the next thing I knew I tipping the scales at 230 and change. I am pretty tall so I “carried” the weight fairly well, but I was definitely headed the wrong way. A friend of mine mentioned that he knew some people who were going to Dr. Stickler and they were doing very very well on his program. I had read about the national program you see in the airline magazines but I knew that travelling that far and keeping up with the long-distance relationship with those doctors would be problematic. I was happy to hear that the same program and help was here in Charleston. So, I took the plunge and set an appointment. I was both sad and happy with the first appointment. I was sad to find that my body fat was just under 40%! I was sad to find that my cardiovascular performance and flexibility were so poor despite my “work outs.” I was happy to find that from diet, to exercise, to bone density, to extensive blood panels and hormone optimization, there was a way to get back to where I wanted to be and was years before. Everything was there if you simply committed to the concept that enough is enough and this is the best shot at a completely changed life. I took the full plunge. The diet was a change. What I was eating to that point was not bad in most folks’ eyes, but when they explain the insulin wave and insulin sensitivity and how the body reacts to certain foods, you realize that everything you thought you knew about diet is way off. And, what you can eat on this program is not tasteless and bland. I eat better than ever. It is simply a matter of keeping the right foods around you and with you. They even go to the grocery store with you the first time if you want! The exercise was the hardest part. No way to beat around the bush. They got me into Crossfit and with the diet, the exercise and getting my testosterone to simply where it is for a 30 to 35 year old, I cannot believe the results. My body fat is half of what it was. I have dropped over 30 pounds on the scales. But that isn’t the full story. I have actually lost over 44 pounds of fat! I have also gained 26 pounds of lean muscle. I am in better shape now than when I was 35, maybe even 30. At about the 8th to 12th week, the weight and inches started to roll off me. Be prepared, the most expensive part of the program might be the clothing alterations and replacements. It is definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made. Both physically and mentally, I am sharper and more focused. My wife was so impressed with the results she joined the program. Our relationship has benefitted in every way from this program. People approach us and want to know just what the heck happened to us! The change is nothing short of dramatic. If you are to the point where you are reading this and the other testimonials, you must know or at least feel that you need to make some real changes in your life. You need to quit thinking about it and make the damn appointment. You’ll never regret it.
I consider myself a runner. It is a passion that I have had ever since I was a child. Over the past 30 years, I have completed 4 marathons, dozens of half-marathons, and hundreds of 5k and 10k races. Now that’s a lot of shoes and a lot of Gatorade. I also have been involved in coaching both track and cross-country. At the age of 33, I had a hysterectomy. Although it was a necessary procedure, I was not ready for the changes my body would endure. At 33, I was having hot flashes and sleepless nights like a woman decades older than me. I tried over the counter hormone replacements and I was still having the same symptoms. Finally at the age of 40, I went to my physician and was placed on Estradiolwithout any blood work or labs. There was some relief from the hot flashes but the sleepless nights continued. I was watching Oprah one afternoon when they started talking about the importance of having annual blood work to check all of your hormones, not just estrogen. This was news to me, as I had NEVER had my blood drawn to test for hormone profiles much less had a test looking at estrogen levels. After this episode, I knew I needed to find a doctor that wasn’t just going to hand out hormones, I needed a doctor that would perform the necessary exams and tests that would make me feel better, that would allow me to actually sleep a full night. This was my mission!! I was listening to the radio and Dr. Dan Stickler was talking about hormone replacement and the importance of the right levels of hormones. I called as soon as the program aired and made my appointment. At my first visit I was shocked. After thousands of miles I’ve logged over the years, I thought I was fit, very fit!! I was shocked when I learned I was 34.5% body fat which is considered obese based on the BMI scale. WOW! After my lab results were in, I was prescribed different hormone replacements. Within 2 weeks, I noticed that my hot flashes were disappearing and yes, I actually started sleeping through the night. Along with running, I began training at Crossfit and incorporating diet changes into my daily routine. I can’t believe what a change this has made. I feel rejuvenated! I feel invigorated! My body fat is now 28.2% and my goal is 25%. My long-term goal is to help other woman make a change in their lifestyle and encourage them to be fit and active, whether it be through running or cross training. People always ask my why I run or what am I running from. I run for my health, I run for my life, I run for my children and I run for me!Before

"Working with Dr. Dan Stickler and Physiologix has been the best medical decision I have ever made!
My wife learned of Dr. Stickler over 4 years ago in her quest to help recover from the problems associated with a full hysterectomy. Shortly after, we both began the program of total health management and we haven’t been the same since.
Both of us have transformed our health from a “fix when we get sick” mentality to a “prevent aging and illness” mentality. We feel many years younger than our mid 40’s, even our sex drive feels young again. We are also transforming our bodies to a much leaner and healthier look and feel. I personally have more energy and strength that I have had since college.
Most important is the “concierge medicine” feel I get with Dr. Stickler and his staff. I no longer have to sit in long waiting rooms on a doctor’s schedule just to be seen for a few minutes and a prescription given. Dr. Stickler works with me and knows my health intimately. Therefore, many times an issue is just a phone call away. Even when I’m at the beach on vacation!
A great example of this “concierge” approach was my recent tussle with the FAA. I am training to become a private pilot. Because of an arthritis condition and medication, I was having trouble getting my medical clearance. Dr. Stickler and his staff worked with me closely to put together all the necessary documentation and tests to help in the clearance process. Dr. Stickler wrote several letters on my behalf and all without a long wait. I called one day and the letters were going out the next! In my mind, that’s even better than 'concierge'!!!"

"Simply put, Dr. Stickler and Physiologix changed my life. I started the program at 45 yrs old and systemically run down. I felt awful all the time but, as guys often do, had tried to ignore it or "tough it out.". I finally got sick and tired of being sick and tired and made an appointment. I sincerely wish I'd done it five years ago. In one year, I've lost 14# in body fat and, more importantly, gained 26# in lean muscle. And those were just the most obvious physical benefits. With Dr. Stickler's program I regained the mental sharpness I'd gradually lost over the years as well as the sex drive. In short, i feel like felt when i was twenty five; ALL THE TIME!!
I grew up in Florida in a household filled with fried southern foods and a significant history of heart disease (Mother had a triple bypass at 38) and diabetes. From an early age I was determined that I would not go down the road to poor health and deterioration, that I appeared to be genetically destined to travel.
After attending the University of South Florida, I entered the Air Force and began to live my "new' life. I set out to be "healthy" and became a vegetarian! For ten years I ate nothing but carbohydrates in the form of pastas, breads and vegetables. Long story short and three children later, I was depleted, exhausted and wishing that the end of my day would come sooner.
I sought medical treatment and was diagnosed with peri-menopause at the age of 36. Unfortunately, as is often the case, the answer provided was....."oh, this could last ten to twelve years and there isn't much you can do about it". I struggled through the next four years with hot flashes, night sweats, exhaustion, decreased mental acuity, and NO libido. No one ever told me that at the age of 40 I would feel like getting in bed and staying there!! Off to the hospital for a hysterectomy and the end of normal hormone production. Now what? Will I get fat? mean? depressed?
I started researching bio-identical hormone replacement and was on my way to Cenegenics in Las Vegas, when I met Dr. Stickler. Couldn't believe there was a Cenegenics trained physician in my small town! I drew labs, entered the program, and completed the full day of evaluation. I had hope for the first time in years. Within a month of starting the program everything began to change. I was sleeping, hot flashes decreased, I could multi task again, energy was improving and my libido was back!! My dry eye prescription went out the window.....my hair, nails and skin improved.
It sounds perfect and mostly is. The diet was the hardest piece for me. Remember the years of being a vegetarian? I ate only once or twice a day and my protein intake was maybe 30 grams a day. I phoned weekly lamenting the fact that I had to put food in my body every three hours. I was reassured that it would be worth it and struggled on with my timer and cataloging my food, shooting for that 150 grams of protein a day. After six months the diet was my new friend, I could tell the time based on my stomach and its need for nourishment! At one year I had lost a lot of body fat and gained significant muscle.End result: I dropped 10% body fat, gained eighteen pounds of muscle, went from a size four to a two and weigh exactly the same 135 that I weighed when I started. I have the energy of a child and feel like a million bucks! The magik is back in full force and I joined the Physiologix staff to help others in similar life circumstances.
